چکیده

In this paper, a moving object detection method in video sequences is described. In the 3rst step, the camera motion is eliminated using motion compensation. An adaptive subband decomposition structure is then used to analyze the motion compensated image. In the “low–high” and “high–low” subimages moving objects appear as outliers and they are detected using a statistical detection test based on fractional lower-order statistics. It turns out that the distribution of the subimage pixels is almost Gaussian in general. On the other hand, at the object boundaries the distribution of the pixels in the subimages deviates from Gaussianity due to the existence of outliers. By detecting the regions containing outliers the boundaries of the moving objects are estimated. Simulation examples are presented. ? 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Adaptive Spectral Separation Two Layer Coding with Error Concealment for Cell Loss Resilience

This paper addresses the issue of cell loss and its consequent effect on video quality in a packet video system, and examines possible compensative measures. In the system's enconder, adaptive spectral separation is used to develop a two-layer coding scheme comprising a high priority layer to carry essential video data and a low priority layer with data to enhance the video image. A two-step er...

A Family of Variable Step-Size Normalized Subband Adaptive Filter Algorithms Using Statistics of System Impulse Response

This paper presents a new variable step-size normalized subband adaptive filter (VSS-NSAF) algorithm. The proposed algorithm uses the prior knowledge of the system impulse response statistics and the optimal step-size vector is obtained by minimizing the mean-square deviation(MSD). In comparison with NSAF, the VSS-NSAF algorithm has faster convergence speed and lower MSD. To reduce the computa...

Small moving object detection in video sequences

In this paper, we propose a method for detection of small moving objects in video. We first eliminate the camera motion using motion compensation. We then use an adaptive predictor to estimate the current pixel using neighboring pixels in the motion compensated image and, in this way, obtain a residual error image. Small moving objects appear as outliers in the residual image and are detected u...

Moving object detection in video by detecting non-Gaussian regions in subbands and active contours

A multi-stage moving object detection algorithm in video is described in this paper. First, the camera motion is eliminated by motion compensation. An adaptive subband decomposition structure is then used to analyze the difference image. In the high-band subimages, moving objects which produce outliers are detected using a statistical test determining non-Gaussian regions. It turns out that the...
